Application To Appeal On Expired Driving License

Provisional Driving license (PDL) have a grace period of 1 year to upgrade the license to Competent Driving license (CDL) before the licensee may need to start over the entire driving lesson procedures. Competent Driving license (CDL) and Vocational Driving License (GDL/PSV) have a grace period of 3 year to renewed the license before the licensee may need to start over the entire driving lesson procedures.

Appeal for an expired driving license can be made online, in writing or in person to the JPJ State / Branch Office only. The expired driving license covers the following:

• Provisional Driving license (PDL) for more than 1 year
• Competent Driving license (CDL) for more than 3 years
• Vocational Driving License (GDL/PSV) for more than 3 years

Application Procedures

Manually

• Application for appeal can be made at the counter of JPJ State / Branch Office and the Driver Licensing Department at JPJ Headquarters

• Submit a copy of your identity card/passport and driving license

• Application result can be accessed via any JPJ State / Branch Office or printed online 14 days from the application date

Online

• Making an online application through JPJ website at www.jpj.gov.my

• Complete the details of the online application form

• Application result can be accessed via any JPJ State / Branch Office or printed online 14 days from the application date

Remarks: You can appeal for the renewal with valid reasons, e.g. stay in overseas (due to studying, working, pandemic, etc), jailed or hospitalized.

The JPJ Director-General has the authority to approve/reject any application. If successful, the applicant is exempted from taking Part I of the driving test but are required to sit for Practical Test II and III. If the application is not successful, the applicant is required to take Part I, II and III of the driving test.
